OBITUARY for Robert G. Proudfoot (August 3, 1923 - January 31, 2014)

Beloved by his family, Robert George Proudfoot passed away on January 31, 2014 at 90 years. Robert, a professional engineer, teacher, and administrator, worked in Edmonton during the 1950s to 1980s for Alberta Public Works and NAIT. His interest in technical education took Robert and his family to Zambia, Africa from 1969 to 1977, where he led a CIDA project that established Zambia Institute of Technology. During the 1980s, Robert helped engineering colleges in Tanzania and Ecuador upgrade their academic administration and he also assisted in developing educational opportunities at NAIT for students from around the world. Robert and his wife Norma, as long-time members of Edmonton's First Presbyterian Church, sponsored and hosted several refugees from Sudan in later years. 

Robert is survived by Norma and their seven children with spouses, Gordon (Laura), Robert (Valerie), Maryanne, David (Patricia), Donald (Katherine), Marilyn and Duncan (Sharon). He was blessed with 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Robert was predeceased by parents, Lorne and Hilda; siblings, Kathleen, James, Eileen, William and Dorothy and by spouses to Kathleen (Grant Bingeman) and Eileen (Orville Burkinshaw). A Celebration of Robert's life was held on Friday, February 7 at 10:00 a.m. at Glenwood Funeral Home, South of Wye Road on Range Road 232, Sherwood Park.
